Boehringer Ingleheim use chatbots to help asthma suffers manage their condition

BI wanted to use a chatbot to engage with users and draw out more insight than a standard web questionnaire. The aim was to make users aware of their asthma symptoms and to discuss them with their doctor.

We developed Tabatha, a robust chatbot with Natural Language Processing (NLP) capabilities to help asthma sufferers understand and manage their condition.
Google Dialogflow was used for NLP and Watson Tone Analyzer was used to allow BI to report on the emotion of users when they describe how they felt when suffering from asthma.

Tabatha was deployed to Facebook Messenger and was launched on the ‘Asthma: Think, Act, Breathe’ Facebook page in time for World Asthma Day in 2017.

Outcome: Tabatha was the first chatbot for global patient education ever developed by a pharmaceutical company and she engaged with 3,800 users over the first 2 weeks of being live, far exceeding the engagement levels of the previous web questionnaire.
